- How much does Cinema United membership cost?
Cinema United’s dues structure is divided into the following four membership categories. Dues are assessed annually. Cinema United’s fiscal year runs from 1-July to 30-June.
- U.S. Domestic The 50 united states and the District of Columbia. Dues are $70 per screen, with a minimum dues payment of $300
- U.S. Territory Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands. Several legislative issues in the United States affect territories governed by U.S. federal law, therefore Cinema United’s lobbying efforts affect these cinemas. Dues are $35.00 per screen, with a minimum dues payment of $300.
- Canada Hollywood studios deal with Canadian exhibitors as domestic companies, and the most important issues for U.S. and Canadian exhibitors overlap. Dues are US$35.00 per screen, with a minimum dues payment of $300.
- International All countries outside of the U.S. and Canada. Several key issues affect all cinemas on a global level (technology, windows, movie theft, etc.), so worldwide collaboration benefits all members. Annual dues are US$15.00 per screen with a $300 dues minimum and a $5,000 dues maximum.

- What are the qualifications for joining Cinema United?
According to Cinema United’s Bylaws, the Association offers the following membership categories:
Regular Membership is available to any sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, or other business entity directly engaged in the operation of one or more motion picture exhibition facilities. A Regular Member may be a private or public sector (non-military) nonprofit business entity in the United States of America and its Territories. To qualify, the company must exhibit DCP-encrypted motion pictures authorized with a Key Delivery Message (KDM) and/or exhibit motion pictures via 35mm or 70mm film in one or more fixed locations built for the purpose of motion picture exhibition. A theater must be open and operating for at least 30 days before it is eligible for Regular Membership.
Prospective Membership is available to companies that are planning to open one or more motion picture exhibition facilities within the next 12 months. Applicants must provide documentation demonstrating their intent and anticipated opening timeline. Upon opening and meeting the requirements for Regular Membership, Prospective Members will transition to Regular Membership.
Film Buying Membership is available to companies whose primary business is providing film buying services on behalf of motion picture exhibitors. Film Buying Members must represent one or more eligible motion picture exhibition companies and support the exhibition industry through the negotiation and management of film bookings.
