How has Cinema United membership been impactful to you and/or your business?Well the most impactful moment was in 2020 & 2021 when were able to receive the SVOG that allowed us to stay in business during the pandemic. There were some heroic efforts that took place by a few key individuals in Management. We will forever be grateful for that.
It’s a very long story but basically a friend of a friend needed some help running the financial side of his theater business and eventually we became the sole owners. We sold that original location this past August. It is what got our foot in the door.
We are a place that people come to in order to enjoy themselves, to be entertained and to escape for a couple of hours. Running a business that brings people joy is rewarding for sure.
Being part of an elaborate wedding proposal that was a surprise to the bride to be was really fun to see. We also love being part of a historic theater in Grass Valley. Keeping the art of film alive since 1942.

It was actually at CinemaCon in 2022 when Top Gun Maverick was screened for us. I am a fan of the original and I was shocked at how good this sequel that came 36 years later was. It was so powerful and knowing what Tom Cruise did to fight for this film to not be put on streaming when I’m sure the pressure was immense to do so, meant a lot to our industry and to our little theaters.
I’m hoping some of the release models and studio controls will change to allow more flexibility in how we schedule and show movies. Allowing independent theaters to make different schedules than what is prescribed now. Trusting us to know our towns and audience.
It is the most unique business you can imagine. No other industry can compare you for how things work. Surround yourself with other theater owners to share ideas, you only know what you know. Also, lean into the fun times!
